The article investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on power dynamics, focusing on the transformation of citizenship into a computational model and the resulting social, political, and ethical implications.
A first critical issue is the unbalanced distribution of data between citizens and corporations in today’s global landscape. From this, the article offers a critical reading of current international AI strategies, highlighting the risks of oligopolistic concentration of digital power and the shift from a data-driven economy to an economy of intentions.
The article explores the strategic role of the European Union in promoting an alternative approach rooted in transparency, digital sovereignty, and cultural pluralism, including the development of open-source and multilingual AI models. Finally, it stresses the urgent need for critical digital education and democratic governance capable of ensuring that technological progress remains equitable and inclusive.
